Youth Leader Sustainability
Adobe PDF (190KB)
Why do so many youth ministers/leaders opt out of ministry (or burn out) after a reasonably short period of time? Arising out of a meeting of Youth Vision representatives from around Australia, this question was a source of concern and frustration. Unchecked, this trend causes untold damage to youth ministers, and makes it harder for local churches to connect with their local youth communities.
Asking The Unasked Questions doesn't have all the answers, but it does ask a lot of questions! It is designed to be read in five small sections, each loaded with theological and practical reflections and a series of topical questions that can initiate healthy conversations between youth workers and local church leadership. The key word in Asking The Unasked Questions is relationship. If the five key relationships highlighted in this document are growing in health, then we hope that the likelihood of a sustained and healthy youth ministry in a local church will be increased.
Put together by Craig Brown, and drawing on the experience of Youth Vision reps Australia wide, Asking The Unasked Questions also draws on the experience of three youth ministers who had ministered to youth in their respective churches for a combined total of over 45 years! Asking The Unasked Questions is not just for youth ministers/leaders. It is designed equally for team leaders of churches to use in conversation with their youth ministers/leaders.
