Churches of Christ in NSW is strongly committed to the calling and equipping of missional leaders
Missional Leadership
The essential nature of the Church and therefore of individual churches
from a Biblical perspective is that it is missional - it exists to
reach the "lost"; those who do not yet belong. The church was
instituted through the mission of Jesus and commissioned by Him to
"make disciples". Jesus called the disciples to be "fishers of men".
The church is thus intentionally and essentially a community of people
who have a mission beyond themselves, beginning at home - and reaching
to the ends of the earth.
That the churches in Western society, including Australia, have become inward looking is now widely acknowledged. We have been preoccupied with what suits us, what we are comfortable with (often as consumers), while our calling is to incarnate the gospel where the lost are. The transformation of churches to being "other centred" is crucial and urgent. Self-absorbed churches are by and large dying churches.
The paradigm change to missional church requires visionary, courageous, loving leaders to facilitate the transformation of local churches to engage with their geographical communities. These new leaders will include those called to ministry as a vocation and those who are in lay leadership (often in the role of elders).
Churches of Christ in New South Wales is strongly committed to the calling and equipping of missional leadership. The Australian College of Ministries has reoriented its training curriculum to train for Missional Leadership and shaped itself to train both vocational and lay leaders without them having to relocate from their "home" church. The new breed of missional leaders are/will be committed strongly to pouring their lives into people who are enthusiastic to share the good news where they have regular contact with lost people.
We are seeking as part of God's people to revision and re-paradigm churches through the power of the Spirit of God working in apostolic (entrepreneurs for God) and prophetic (speaking God's word) leaders.
Churches of Christ in New South Wales, through the recalibration of its present churches and through a vital and innovative church planting priority, are seeking to be a radical frontier missional movement for God in our local communities.
